D3 welcomes two Survey Statistician Interns for summer 2024. Read below to learn more about Karolyn and Matthew.

Karolyn Yoon recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s in Statistics and a minor in Computer Science. Her current interests are in Machine Learning, as well as exploring algorithms and data structures. She is excited to learn and be challenged during this internship alongside the DSSM team at D3!

Matthew VanBronkhorst is currently a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, studying economics and math. Within the realm of statistics and data science, he is very interested in Bayesian statistics, causal inference, neural networks, and other classical and modern statistical techniques, but first and foremost he is concerned with using statistics in the context of socioeconomic and geopolitical issues. The D3 stats team really caught his eye because it sits at the convergence of these two ideas – he gets to learn new statistical techniques, improve his data wrangling and coding skills, and work on interesting, human-facing projects with cool people! He’s very excited to get his hands dirty with survey statistics at D3 this summer.
